ABOUT
Hi, I’m Lauren! I’m a full-time mom of three young children, and I paint in my spare time. I live in Somerville, Massachusetts, and enjoy painting scenes from my surroundings: the sky, local haunts, and my children.
In high school, I discovered the fun of painting large murals. The first one I painted was on the side of a barn at a nature center when I was 16, and I enjoyed talking to people walking by as I painted. It won the national silver award for the Scholastic’s art and writing contest, and I went on to study painting and sculpture at Gordon College in Massachusetts.
After college, I spent over five years working with and teaching ceramics, selling my own work, while also designing and overseeing several community ceramic installation projects at the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Boston and Roxbury. I love the communal aspect of art, how it can bring people together through the physical expression of individual perspectives and memories, and make more memories in the process.
When my second child was born in 2019, I started painting again, experimenting with mixed-media cloud abstractions, and more detailed oil paintings of brickwork on local buildings. I continue to enjoy exploring the interplay of nature with human architecture, particularly shadows on brickwork. I hope to start deeper exploration of more figurative work inspired by my children, stay tuned…. Please reach out if you have any questions or are interested in commissioning a painting!
